Five things you didn’t know about sunscreen.

Five things you didn’t know about sunscreen.

It is summer and everyone goes looking for that sunscreen lotion, don’t we?  Because the sun is shining again?  But we actually do this all wrong.  The sun shines much more often than just in the summer months.  And why do we need to use sunscreen?

We have five interesting facts you didn’t know about sunscreen:

1. A higher SPF doesn’t mean that the sunscreen is safer

The higher the SPF, the better?  That is not completely true.  If you wear a sunscreen with SPF30, it means that you can stay in the sun 30 times longer than if you don’t wear protection.  But SPF50 doesn’t mean that you can stay in the sun 50 times longer.

2. Waterproof sunscreen does not exist

When the description on your sunscreen says that its ‘’water-resistant’’, it means that the SPF in the cream still works 80 minutes after you’ve been in the water.  A sunscreen can’t be completely ‘’waterproof’’ or ‘’sweatproof’’.  That just doesn’t exist.  Even ‘’water-resistant’’ sunscreen creams need to be applied several times a day.  Just don’t forget that!  Nobody wants to get burned, right?

3. Should you buy a cheap or expensive sunscreen?

There is not a huge difference between expensive or cheap sunscreen.  Dermatologists recommend using a cream that also contains antioxidants that fight free radicals.

4. You probably don’t use enough sunscreen

To cover your entire body, you should roughly put the amount of a shot glass on your whole body.  On days when you only have to put sunscreen on your face, you should put the amount of a teaspoon of sunscreen cream and don’t forget your neck!

 5. Sunscreen prevents skin aging

You probably heard this advice many times, but it is really scientifically proven.  From various responses it is stated that people who use sunscreen daily have 24% less wrinkles than people who don’t do this.

If you look at these five facts, you can conclude that it is very important to use sunscreen!  So, protect yourself and the people around you against the sun and keep using sunscreen cream!  That is the least you can do, right?
